Here are ideas I've had so far:
- Make a Travelogue about Venice (one of my favorite places in the world)
- Draw a series of portraits of people I know
- Draw my neighborhood (The Italian Market in Philadelphia)
- Illustrate quotes I like
- Continue last year's mythology theme with constellations
- OR something else completely different that hasn't crossed my mind yet...
I illustrated this quote a little while ago, and realized I never posted it! It's definitely sketchbook related, so this post is a great place for it.
If you'd like to see my 2012 Sketchbook Project look on the Art-House Co-op site here (click on it):
Unfortunately, you won't be able to see it on the tour because it's lost... really lost. I don't know where it is (somewhere in Brooklyn??), neither does Art-House or the Postal Service. At least there are still pictures!! I would recommend that anyone participating in the Sketchbook Project this year mail it with signature required... I'm going to hand deliver mine!
Aw, so cool! I wanted to do the 2012 project, but I was a little late signing up last year. I might sign up for the coming year though!
ReplyDeleteDid you photograph the pictures on your profile, or did the project people post them for you? It's really cool that even though you don't have the physical copy anymore, you still have the photos :)
I think I will sign up! <3

Yes!! Sign up!!
DeleteI photographed it myself. You can have the Art-House people scan and digitize it for you too.
I didn't sign up yet, mostly because I'm not a fan of the vague topics. I might:
ReplyDelete*pick a different topic from last year's offering
*travelogue from my Ireland trip
*travelogue from my Lake George trip this summer
*a book of NYC live sketches
*do a book full of my doodles
*draw everything I eat over the course of 2-3 months
*draw everything I buy over the course of 2-3 months
I thought of the illustrating quote thing too... SO MANY IDEAS!!!
Good luck!
I love the idea of drawing everything you eat! How fun!!
DeleteAw man I'm sorry that your sketchbook has not been found! However, I know for a fact wherever it is someone is admiring the illustrations because they're all so creative and wonderfully put together! It's nice that you still have photos of the sketchbook and you still have the whole "journey" on your blog. It was really fun reading all your posts about the project.
ReplyDeleteObviously I'm going to vote for illustrating quotes because I love quotes! I make collages around quotes and it's always fun & creative. There are so many options there. However, I also like your idea of the travelogue because along with the beautiful drawings you'll create you will also have stories to tell about the places you've been and about Zack chasing cats through Italy...
I like when stories are attached to something that is created - it just makes it more special that way.
It would also be cool if you did something about your style because you always have the coolest clothes!
I can't believe they lost it, that's such a shame! I look forward to see what you do with this year's - I think all those ideas sound good :) Hope your sketchbook shows up soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a sad thing that your sketchbook got lost. Perhaps it'll show up, you never know! Glad you took those beautiful pictures though. What an amazing sketchbook!
ReplyDeleteI can't inspire you for the 2013 sketchbook, because I have exactly the same problem: I have no idea yet! I like all of your ideas so far, and the illustrated quote is beautiful!
Wow, love the illustrated quote! Sounds like a great idea.
ReplyDeletejk
Hope someone finds your sketchbook! At least you have a copy of your work. I've been to Venice and a travelogue about it sounds fantastic. It would be like a little vacation every time you'd finish a page.
ReplyDeleteloved the idea, beautiful quote illustration..I wish that i can sign in the Project ...
ReplyDelete:( so sad that your book last year got lost!
ReplyDeletehopefully it will turn up one day
I know they received mine but it still hasn't been digitised
I haven't signed up this year as they aren't coming back to Europe in 2013 and I wouldn't be able to go and visit my book.....am hoping they will change their mind on that and then I'll probably be in, although like a few others, I'm not at all enthused by this year's vague themes....
sorry that was a very negative comment! I do very much look forward to seeing what you come up with this year :)
Booooooo to your sketchbook being lost! Thank goodness for your pics! Definitely looking forward to your work for 2013! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments on my blog. I'm going through a little rough time, with little creative inspiration, but I'm hoping to get back into it soon. And I used to do yoga, but that has also fallen by the way side, as these things tend to do when you're in a rough place. However, I will try and do some this weekend, because you are right, yoga does work! ~ Sara
ReplyDeleteNice.
ReplyDeleteI did it a couple of years ago but must admit I was intimidated by the amount of pages. I ended up joining every other page together and cut the whole thing in half.
Did you do all the pages?
I like the travelogue idea.
Deborah
Yup... finished all of the pages. It helped to do two pages at once as a spread.
DeleteHey! Trying to find some inspiration as well and I ended up on your blog! Love the illustrations :-)
ReplyDeleteAs for a theme I might pick "Mystery" but have not figured out how to interpret it. Just moved to Oslo so maybe I can use the city landscape as a inspiration. Oh well! Good luck with figuring things out. Going to bookmark this site!!!
Can't wait to see what you do with it. My 2013 book has been sitting on my desk for a while....I really need to make a start!
ReplyDeleteI just came back from the tour, and I reread your blog because I could not find your sketchbook. This explains why! I am so sorry you lost it in the mail. I hope it does not happen again.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with 2013!
