Illustration Friday: Disguise

I played around with the Sktchy app again today. This week's Illustration Friday topic is "disguise", so I found a photo on the app to work from that went with that theme. Drawing someone with face paint is harder than I thought!

Snow Day Sktchy Drawing

I had a snow day off from work today! Even though I have plenty of other projects to work on, I decided to use part of today to try the Sktchy app on my phone. I have been admiring the posts by Vin Ganapathy on Instagram, and decided to try it for myself.

The app is full of people's photos. You're free to choose any to draw from, and the upload your result. I really had a lot of fun with this one, even if it's not an exact likeness of my subject. My inspiration was this photo:
If you want some practice drawing people, I'd really suggest this app. I'm going to try to make time to draw one sketchy portrait a week.

If you decide to try it, find my page and add me! :)

Library Tigers

Remember when I actually updated this blog consistently?

Anyway... if you follow this blog you know I draw, but you may not know that I also work in a public library. My library is about to roll out a HUGE early literacy program called "1000 B 4 K". It will encourage parents to read 1000 books to their preschoolers before they start kindergarten. It's an important step for kindergarten preparedness.

In preparation for this program, I was asked to create a mascot, preferably a cute animal. I drew the tiger on the left holding a library card as a kind of logo that appears on all of our literature and publicity for the program. The drawing on the right is for the reading log where parents will record the books they've read to their children.

There will be more tiger drawings soon. Stay tuned!
