Illustration Friday: Stir

Coffee Stirrer, pen, watercolor & colored pencil on watercolor paper, 10 x 11", 2011.
I thought those little red straw things were called coffee stirs.  My boyfriend, Zack, told me I was wrong and they're called coffee stirrers.  I googled it; he was right.  It's still close enough to the topic, right?

I haven't done a self portrait in a loooong time.  I learned some things from it:
1. I need a hair cut
2. Drawing with pen takes forever!  I think I prefer pencil; it has a "messier" look that I like.

Now I'll have a picture to put in my "About" section!

Here's a close-up:

  6. Amazingly accurate self portrait! did you work from photos to get that angle?

I may disagree with you about drawing in pen, but I can't possibly argue with your results! Nicely done!

  7. Ohhh FDR

Yup... I worked from a picture. I know people frown upon using photographs, but I don't think they know what they're talking about.

  10. Wow, that must have taken a lot of patience. You have a steady hand. I love the textures juxtaposed against the explicit line. The dots in the steam is a nice touch

  13. This is lovely, Sarah. I like your lines too.

Nothing wrong with working from a photograph. It is known as using a reference. ;-)
